Prerequisite Skills:

Section 300 and 302 are online courses and are taught via the Internet. Successful online students are self-disciplined, posses good study habits, have good time management skills, and are willing to invest the extra time and effort needed to keep up with class assignments on their own. 

Students enrolled in this class should have a working knowledge of personal computer basics, must have an email account and know how to send and receive attachments, and be able to “Copy,” “Cut” and “Paste” information from one document to another.

 

There will be assignments outside of class that require a personal computer with Internet access. The computer should have MS Word 2000, or higher (not MS Works), a word-processing system that can save files in RTF format, Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, and access to the Internet. If students do not have access to the required equipment, they will have to use computers in Lab J in the Center for Contemporary Technology building, cyber-café (D-building) or LRC Library computers on campus to complete the assignments and to study for this class. If you feel you may not meet these requirements, speak to the instructor prior to registering for this course.  

Course Description:

This course is designed for students who are expecting to enter the business environment or attain a business related degree. This is an introductory or beginning level course. 

Access to the Course:

This course section will be taught using an online course management system called Blackboard which is available via the Internet. The course will be available during the first week of class.  Registered students with a validated college ID can obtain their Blackboard Username and Password at: http://my.morainevalley.edu. Note: There is no “www” in the Blackboard URL. If you have used Blackboard at Moraine Valley in the past your user ID and password will be whatever you used before. If you forgot your User ID or password visit http://my.morainevalley.edu to get instructions from the Help Desk. 

Projects:

Students are required to submit all projects and assignments by the last date due.  Students are encouraged to submit projects and assignments before the last date due.  Projects and assignments not taken by the last dates available will receive a grade of zero or have points deducted for that item. 

 

All Quizzes and Exams:

Students are required to take all quizzes and exams. 

Exams are given over the internet for a specific 24 hour calendar day. Exams must be taken during the 24 hour calendar day or a grade of zero will be given.

 

Quizzes are given during a broader date range.  Quizzes not taken by the last due date will receive a grade of zero for that quiz. 

Course Start Date:

The course start date is the first week of class. The course may not be available in your course listing in Blackboard until the first week of class.

The college provides free CTL-sponsored Student Blackboard Orientations to help you become a successful online learner. These workshops are open to any student who would like to learn more about Blackboard, or who is new to Blackboard. 

First Reading Assignment and Due Dates:

Read the first Chapter prior to or during the first week of class.  There will be assignments due within a few days of the start of the semester. Details will be provided on the Blackboard course website.

When emailing the instructor, always put the course number and section, BUS XXX-300 or BUS XXX-302, in the SUBJECT line, and in the message area give your full name and current telephone number.  Emails without this information will not be answered.
