Pre-Semester Checklist

Create a Course Shell
A course shell is the framework where you build your course. The empty shell will have the year, course name, and section for you to begin uploading content.
You cannot have a course shell until you have been trained and approved by the Center for Teaching and Learning.  Please contact the Center to arrange for this training.

Copy your Course
Prior to each semester, contact the Web Specialist to copy content (e.g. course materials, your syllabus, etc.) from the previous time it was taught into the new semester's course shell.

When your course is copied, it makes an exact copy of what's in that course. Copying should be done at least 3 weeks before the start of the semester due to the volume of requests. Requests will be fulfilled in 2-3 business days. You will receive an email confirmation when the copy is complete. Please verify that all content copied correctly.

Populating your Course with Students and Add/Drop Information
Student who enroll into an online or classroom/online course are automatically enrolled into Blackboard. Students are added to online courses Monday-Friday,  the business day after the registration occurs. You will see your enrollment 10 days before the start of class. If students are dropped for any reason, they will be removed from your roster within 24 hours.

Finding the student roster
Click on your Control Panel in the course>List/Modify Users>Search.

To add a photo to your faculty information
Contact the Marketing and Publications Department.  The Moraine Valley  photographer will take your picture, and you will receive a digital file which you can upload to your course.
