Development of a 300-350 Online Course

There are two types of classes that use online delivery: "online" and "classroom/online."  A student enrolled in an online class (Section 300) may be required to come to campus to attend an orientation or take tests, but he is not required to attend any instruction on campus.  A student enrolled in a classroom/online course (Section 350) however, IS required to attend class regularly on campus.

These are the steps to take when you want to teach an online or classroom/online course.

  1. In the fall, fill out an " Intent to Develop" form and give it to your Dean. If approved, the Dean signs it and forwards it to the Center for Teaching and Learning Instructional Designer.
  2. Take training.  The Instructional Designer arranges for you to be part of a development class, taught each spring, for fall classes and each fall, for spring classes.  She also makes sure you have access to Blackboard space.
  3. Create an initial module for your class.
  4. Demonstrate your module.  In the summer, the Center for Teaching and Learning hosts an "Innovation Day" for administrators and interested faculty, in which you will give a fifteen-minute presentation of your class. Innovation Day is held at the end of the fall semester (if you take training in the fall) and in the summer (if you take training in the spring).
  5. Complete the development and launch your class for the fall or spring semesters.
